Apple’s highly anticipated fall lineup is likely hitting stores on Friday, September 20. Alongside the new iPhone 16 series, we’re also expecting updates to the Apple Watch family, including the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and possibly a refreshed Apple Watch SE. But what about the flagship model, the Apple Watch Series 10? Well, it seems like Apple is gearing up for its first major design overhaul in three years.
A New Look for the Apple Watch Series 10
It’s about time for a change! The early Apple Watch models, up to Series 3, stuck with the same case sizes: 38mm and 42mm. These numbers, by the way, refer to the height of the case.
Then came Series 4, 5, and 6, which introduced a slightly larger display and a 2mm bump in case size, bringing us to 40mm and 44mm. Apple continued to tweak the design with Series 7, 8, and the current Series 9, pushing the case sizes to 41mm and 45mm.
Now, according to reliable tipster Sonny Dickson, who claims to have seen images of the upcoming models, the Apple Watch Series 10 will feature yet another 1mm increase, giving us 42mm and 46mm case options.
Bigger Isn’t Always Better, But It’s Exciting!
If this info is correct, the smaller Apple Watch case will be the same size as the original large case. That’s a pretty big deal! However, there’s no word yet on whether the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will also grow from its current 49mm size. My guess? If there’s any significant design change for the Ultra, it’ll come next year. But if the rumored space black version makes an appearance, I’ll be the first in line!
Subtle Changes or Something More?
When it comes to design, size isn’t everything. I asked around about any other potential changes and was told the design seems relatively similar. But I suspect there might be more going on under the surface, like a tweak to the flatness or curvature of the cover glass.
Apple’s known for pushing the envelope with each design update, so expect a bigger display, possibly thinner bezels, and maybe even some fresh new color options. After all, if Apple is sticking to its three-year design cycle, they’ll want to make this update count!
